Is Your Skincare Giving You Pimples?

By Janice Tham

When you are a teenager, your skin tends to be oilier and more prone to pimples than the grown ups. You are better off using skincare for oily skin. The kind of skincare labeled for younger skin and problem skin.

As you grow older, your skin matures. It becomes less oily. Pimples become a thing of the past. Fine lines and wrinkles threaten to appear. You change your skincare to fit your skin’s changing needs. You switch to anti-aging skincare to preserve your skin.

Then spots start appearing. Soon, you look like a classic case of teenage acne. Your entire face is covered with angry red spots.

Does that sound anything like your current situation?

Pimples and blemishes appear during puberty because of hormones which cause your sebaceous glands to produce more oil. Those hormones cause the horny layer of your skin to thicken and pores get blocked more easily. The acne bacteria, propionobacterium acnes breeds happily in the sebum stucked in that blocked pore. The result? That red inflammed bump known as a pimple.

Puberty isn’t the only thing that messes with your hormones. Stress too can cause your hormones to go haywire, and pimples to appear. It is pretty common for stressed out middle aged folks to suffer from acne too. Besides, some women never outgrow acne.

If you are faced with pimples, evaluate your skincare. What skincare are you using?

If you are using antiaging skin, chances are, the creams you are using are too rich for your skin. They may very well clog your pores, or add more oil to your already oily skin. Even if you are in your forties, if you have oily skin, give the skincare meant for mature skin a miss. Stick to skincare for younger skin or oily skin or problem skin.

Is your skincare oil-free?

If you have a pimple outbreak, stick to skincare that is oil free. Why add more oil to the fire? Your skin has enough oil to fill those pores and to clog them. Why add more oil to your already oily skin?

Is your skincare noncomedogenic? Comedones are those hardened plugs in blocked pores. Blackheads, whiteheads and pimples start with these blocked pores. Non comedogenic skincare has been tested not to block pores.

Which cleanser are you using?

Does your cleanser effectively, yet gently clean your skin thoroughly, without adding more oil to your skin? If your skin is oily, you are better off using a wash-off cleanser. A foaming cleanser is excellent for oily skin. Cream cleansers or milky cleansers that have to be cleaned off with toners may be a little too rich for pimple prone skin.

Although you want to get rid of excess oil, you don’t want skincare that is so harsh it strips all the oil and moisture from your skin. Alcohol based skincare may strip more oil than necessary, tricking your skin into producing more oil than before.

Your best bet is to switch to skincare meant for oily sensitive skin. The ideal skincare regulates your skin’s oil factories, unblocks the pores through exfoliation and kills acne bacteria so your skin doesn’t get pimples.

Stop! Before You Pop Pimples Be Sure to Read This!

Pimples are a nightmare! Don’t you just hate it when you wake up in the morning and see a huge pimple staring back at you in the mirror?

It always seems to appear right when we don’t want it the most. On the first day of school, have that big date coming up or when we have that really important job interview.

Don’t blame yourself, these little buggers are actually infections that appear in the skin due to built up dirt and bacteria.

A pimple is not just the white gunk that shoots out when you pop it. Yes, we have all seen this gunk and it is not pretty. I’ve even seen it in projectile mode, but that is another story.

You might be really tempted to just pop it and get it over with but that is not always the best idea. Sure it may make you feel better going out in public, but the residual affects are not worth it. Let me explain…

When you pop a pimple it creates a small open wound on your face. Which leaves it open to infection which will only lead to more whiteheads. In fact, popping a pimple will most likely just lead to even more pimples. Who wants that? Certainly not me.

Another negative for popping pimples is that it spreads oil, dirt and bacteria on your skin, which just spreads them. What you need is a solution that will stop the cycle. It seems like many of these pimple solutions are not really “solutions” after all.

The last thing you want to do is keep popping your pimples and develop acne scars that stay with you for the rest of your life. Stop thinking about the short term satisfaction of popping your pimple and think about the long term health of your skin! You owe this to yourself.

We have all seen adults that have pock marks in their skin because they did not heed this advice when they were younger. Don’t let your skin turn into this. Reverse the damage while you still can.

What is a person to do then when faced with a mounting pimple (no pun intended)? Well, start off with a better diet. What you put in your body comes out through your pores. When you eat healthy food you will have healthy skin.

A person eating pepperoni pizza every day will start to have a face that resembles what they are eating. Not very cute after a while.

Stressing out certainly does not help the situation either. Calm down and clean up your lifestyle. Stress and dairy products produce hormones in our bodies that don’t give off the most flattering affects for our complexion.

If things get really bad you may want to consider visiting a doctor to see if there is a more complicated problem on your hands. However, most of the time you can clear this up on your own.

Just keep your fingers away from those pimples and resist the urge to pop. Your complexion will thank you in the long run.

How to Get Rid of Pimples and Skin Blemishes

By Janice Tham

A big pimple appearing on the face the day of a big event is likely to be distressing. Pimple on your back, though out of sight, are painful. No one wants to be plagued with pimples anywhere. There is no need to suffer unnecessarily. You can get rid of pimples and with proper care, keep the breakouts minimal.

A pimple begins in a pore of your skin. A healthy pore is clean and unblocked. The problem begins when dead skin cells and oil clog up your pore. Bacteria then breeds in the mix causing an inflammation or irritation which we see as a pimple. That is why you should not pick your pimples as you can end up spreading the bacteria, leading to more pimples.

Your skin is not without its defense. It has an acid mantle that bacteria finds inhospitable. However, when you wash your face, you also wash away that layer of protection and your skin takes half to one hour to regenerate that protection. It then makes sense to use a moisturizer or toner after washing your face, to restore your skin’s protection.

That said, to get rid of pimples, you have to unclog the pores and keep a layer of protection to deter bacteria from building up.

The best way to unclog your pores is to exfoliate. It could be a physical exfoliation via a grainy scrub, or a chemical one using AHA or salicylic acid to dissolve the ‘glue’ that makes the dead skin cells stick to the pore walls. Go for something gentle so you do not irritate your skin further.

Next, you need to kill the bacteria. Did you know you could go to your family doctor to get your acne and boils treated? He would typically prescribe an antibiotic cream and a course of antibiotics. That works because when the bacteria responsible for the inflammations is eliminated, your pimples and boils would go a way. The problem with pimples is that after you finish the antibiotics and if your immune system is still unable to control the bacteria growth on your skin, the pimples would return. A long term course of antibiotics stretching over months might not appeal to everyone.

There are other ways to get rid of the bacteria. Over the counter preparations and acne treatments from Clinique, Clarins and other beauty brands are effective too. Some of the ingredients to look out for include benzoyl peroxide which is found on many of the cheaper over the counter acne preparations. What benzoyl peroxide does is to force oxygen into the pore making it inhospitable for bacteria to live in, killing the acne bacteria which hates oxygen. Salicylic acid is another ingredient that works by unclogging the pores. Tea tree oil kills the bacteria outright. These are just some of the possible ingredients you might find in your acne preparations.

For boils, applying a drop of tea tree oil on each boil every 2 hours may be enough to kill the bacteria and bring down the boil. But don’t fool around with boils. These can develop into abcesses which may need surgery, so see the doctor as soon as possible if you have a boil.

About the Author: The bottom line is this. You don’t have to live with pimples. Treat your blemishes quickly. Be proactive and get acne skincare to banish the pimples, or see a doctor about it. More skincare advice from http://www.cosmetics-online.org the health and beauty portal.
