Looking for safe and natural skin care products can be very hard. It’s not that companies don’t “claim” to produce them. It’s just that their claims are not completely true.
Safety is actually the big issue here. Like most people, you would like naturally occurring compounds, because you believe they are safer than synthetic compounds. In many cases, you are right. But, there are a few exceptions.
Mercury, cadmium, lead and other heavy metals are found in nature. They may not be on the list of ingredients in your favorite skin care products, they can be present as contaminants in plant-based oils and extracts.
1000′s of contaminants exist in tap water, which is why water must be refined before it is used in skin care products. Purified water does not occur in nature. You can see the contradictions and the confusion.
We should be able to trust in the manufacturer’s ability to provide the safest all natural skin care creams. How can you find a company worthy of your trust?
Look for a proud signer of the “Compact for Safe Cosmetics”. Companies that have signed the compact promise to use the EU’s higher standards for cosmetic ingredients. Big companies were offered the opportunity to sign. Not one has agreed to sign.
The EU has tightly regulated or banned 1000′s of ingredients, because they are known to cause birth defects, cancer or genetic mutations. The United States has restricted only a few ingredients.
The latest white paper from the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics is warning against the use of fragrances in cosmetics. Whether chemical or naturally occurring, fragrances can trigger asthma attacks, allergic reactions, headaches and shortness of breath. They are also common allergens.
According to the law, cosmetic companies are not permitted to sell any product that can cause hurt to the health of the user. But, there is no requirement to prove their ingredients are safe. Any company that uses artificial preservatives is actually breaking the law, because they have been proven to cause allergic reactions. That is injurious to the health of the user.
As you continue your search for anti aging skin care products, make sure to choose companies that are signers of the Compact for Safe Cosmetics. That way, you’ll be safe.
